Industry experts to discuss internet domain suffixes

SHARJAH: A number of industry experts from around the globe are coming to Dubai next month to share their expert views while attending a day-long conference “Dot Dubai & Expo 2020”.

The conference is being organised by the Cornerstone Event Management Service on March.12, at Madinat Jumeirah Hotel, Dubai.

Talking to The Gulf Today, Sabur Sethi, chairman Cornerstone, on Saturday said that the horizon of internet domain suffix known as generic top-level domain (gTLD) is going to be increased manifold in 2014 as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is going to release over 700 new gTLDs.

“The internet users from individuals to corporate sectors soon see a number of new domain suffixes like – dot Dubai, dot Abu Dhabi and dot Arab – as well as others and the purpose of this conference is to educate the experts from the public and private sectors to be ready and get maximum benefits from this new opportunity,” he said.

He added that Naseem Javed, a prominent author of many books, will lead the day-long conference as moderator.

Others who will be participating as panelists include Robert Stacey, CEO AARM, Manish Gupta, CEO EDS, Dina Abo-Onoq, Chairperson ICC, Kamran Hafeez, MD GEO and Jang Group, Sophia Bekele, CEO Dot Africa, Rolf Larsen, CEO Dot Global, Qusai Al Shatti, Deputy Chairman, Kuwait Information Technology, Saqar Ahmed Mohamed, Head, People Excellence Executive Council of Dubai, Ammar Al Mazrooei, director, Government Innovation Dubai Cabinet Affairs, Zack Abdi, Managing Director, Provectus, Tooba Ghafur, Fashion Brands, Mahmood Khan, Head, Regional Business Ghadeer Al Tayer and David Macadam, CEO and Vice Chairman, MECSC-ICSC.

Sethi pointed that the main objective of the conference is to highlight “what is Dot Dubai and Dot Abu Dhabi and Dot Arab? How will it dominate the global cyber branding towards Expo 2020? as well as understand how small investments will bring a revolution towards a business and how will all this alter business expansion plan in 2014,” he said.

He added that the experts and the panellists will also demonstrate gTLD’s change in the landscape of global e-commerce and bring zillions of new name identities, with a particular focus on the Arab World.
